What People Say

We found this little gem in Wales a few years ago when looking for somewhere to go and relax and we certainly found it at Dolhendre, with such beautiful scenery and so peaceful with river flowing through the site.  The fact that there is no sub-letting  is a massive bonus to us and the parkfeels like all one big family.  The site is run with precision by Cheryl and Andrew which makes owning a van here all the better knowing it’s in safe hands when we aren’t there.

We looked around for a while before buying our van and when we came to Dolhendre, we knew straight away that it was the place for us. The owners, Cheryl and Andrew, are lovely, helpful, knowledgeable and professional. They made us feel welcome from day one. The site is in such a lovely, scenic secluded area, surrounded by beautiful countryside but still within a short driving distance from lovely towns.

The site itself is really well kept and looked after. We have had our van for nearly a year already and every time we leave, we can’t wait to go back again. If you are looking for a lovely quiet escape at a well serviced and maintained location, looked after by owners who take pride in their business, get yourself a holiday home at Dolhendre.

As a child I have many happy memories of caravan holidays in North Wales, my wife had even more, staying in her aunty’s caravan many times during the summer as she grew up. We decided that it would be our next move to find a location that gave us both a reminder of our happy childhood times so we looked to see what was available and chanced on Dolhendre.

Driving through Bala we were impressed with the countryside that opened out as we approached the turning for the park with the views of mountains that cry out to be conquered and an interesting history that includes a Roman Fort and an Iron Age settlement. The River Lliw passes through the caravan park and on to Lake Bala, where the lake outflow becomes the River Dee with some excellent fishing.

Going into the caravan and looking out on to the Park we quickly realised Dolhendre was just what the both of us were looking for, and now after 11 years it has never failed to deliver, always having the amazing ability to recharge our batteries, looking forward to arriving and always sad to leave.

Owning a static at Dolhendre gives you the freedom to come and go as you please, make friends and enjoy sharing time with the other residents or posting your thoughts and experiences to everyone on the park’s Facebook page. Peace and tranquillity are paramount in the almost magical atmosphere that cures the spirit and reinvigorates the soul. There is no sub-letting allowed and that has the great advantage of providing a stable population that enables friendships to flourish.

Dolhendre is well placed to give easy access to places of interest and enjoyment being only an easy journey to the seaside at locations such as Barmouth and a little further to Aberdovey or Llandudno as well as Snowdon as it is located in the Snowdonia National Park. The Coastal path is easily accessed from Porthmadog and beyond and there are the many lakes and excellent walks including the Mawddach trail. For those a little more adventurous the source of the Mawddach can be found walking from the park (a long walk) as can the Lliw’s own waterfall.

The park and its occupants all add to the atmosphere of a friendly place to be, where everyone contributes to the sense of wellbeing you experience as you approach the site and meet your neighbours on arrival, walking through the site or exploring the local footpaths in the various forests in the area. The first three days after arrival enable your fitness levels to rapidly increase if you wish or enable you to just sit back, relax and observe the variety of wildlife present or just interact with your friends.

It’s not just the location and occupants that make Dolhendre special, it’s the efforts of the owners Andrew and Cheryl who always go the extra mile to assist and support everyone. They always provide help in times of need, are extremely approachable, an excellent source of advice and a good conversation. There are a couple of optional annual get together organised by Andrew and Cheryl that are well attended and enjoyed by all.

Back in 2021 we decided to take the plunge and purchase a static caravan, we had a brief idea of what we wanted which was a small quiet site in a rural setting, fortunately after one visit to Dolhendre all our wishes were satisfied

After our initial visit we left a telephone message and received an instant response from the owner Cheryl who runs the Park along with husband Andrew and though no units were available at the time were added to a list of interested parties and within two months we were fortunate to be offered a caravan, Cheryl guided us through the purchasing process with ease and our Dolhendre experience commenced.

The Park is in beautiful unspoiled Welsh countryside and the caravans are exclusive to just owners and families which makes for a close knit community which is encouraged by the owners who twice a season conduct ” get togethers” where everyone who wishes to join in contributes a modest offering of food and drink for each other.

Now entering our 4th full season on the Park and already upgraded to a second caravan on site (via another seamless transaction where Cheryl assisted in the sale of our previous unit to new owners and the purchase of our present caravan) we are fully integrated into the Dolhendre family and are so grateful to have found our own little piece of paradise within its confines and the surrounding areas, where the towns of Bala and Dolgellau along with the seaside resorts of Barmouth and Fairborne are all less than an hour’s drive away.

Dolhendre really is our happy place!  The first time we came to see Dolhendre it was pouring with rain, but we still fell in love with it.  Cheryl made us feel very welcome and we just felt like it was meant to be.  The people on the park are all very friendly and it feels like a small community, while still being somewhere where you can get away from the real world.  Our dog loves coming too as he loves the peace and quiet.  Cheryl and Andrew are always on hand and very helpful if you need anything and with them living on site we always feel secure knowing they keep an eye on things.  The area is just lovely and if you like walking there are so many lovely walks and yet not far away from other places to visit.
